Recruiting Resources II Next Phase

Your entire experience as a highs school student athlete, recruit, and college student athlete is progressive. That is, there are clear periods and activities for specific times during the recruiting process. For example, camps, combines, "Clearinghouse", SAT/ACT happen at specific times and when you advance the next level you will no longer focus on that activity, but the concerns of the next phase. RM2P in understanding this has arranged our resource list and guides along this understanding. Please check out all phases in advance and familiarize yourself with it's organization. Consult with your Recruiting Coach if you ever have questions. Have fun and good luck!

***COLLEGE BOARDS***

Colleges use SAT scores to determine whether or not you will be a good fit for their school. Though SAT scores are important, they are not the only factor that schools look at during the admissions process. Colleges also consider essays, interviews, recommendations, community involvement, your high school GPA, and much more. Even so, your chances of acceptance increase if you have a high SAT score.

Average Scores

The SAT has three sections and three scores, each on a scale of 200 to 800.

Writing (200-800)

Math (200-800)

Critical Reading (200-800)

The average total score is approximately 1,538 points (520 in Math, 510 in Writing, and 508 in Critical Reasoning).

An average score is acceptable for most colleges and universities. However, some of the top schools will expect you to achieve an SAT score of 2,100 of more. A score above 2,100 puts you in the 90th percentile, meaning that you scored better on the test than 90% of test takers.

Perfect Scores
A perfect score is 2,400 points. Approximately 1,000,000 students take the SAT each year and on average, only 20 of them get a perfect score. Click here to learn more about preparing for the SAT.

How ACT figures the multiple-choice test scores and the Composite score

First, we count the number of questions on each test that you answered correctly. We do not deduct any points for incorrect answers.

Then we convert your raw scores (number of correct answers on each test) to "scale scores." Scale scores have the same meaning for all the different forms of the ACT offered on different test dates.

Your Composite score and each test score (English, Mathematics, Reading, Science) range from 1 (low) to 36 (high). The Composite Score is the average of your four test scores, rounded to the nearest whole number. Fractions less than one-half are rounded down; fractions one-half or more are rounded up.

We compute your seven sub scores (Usage/Mechanics, Rhetorical Skills, etc.) in the same way, but sub scores range from 1 (low) to 18 (high). There is no direct, arithmetic relationship between your sub scores and your test scores—this means your sub scores don't add up to your test score. Relationship between the tests, questions, and sub scores Test

ENGLISH 75 Usage/Mechanics (40 questions) Rhetorical Skills (35 questions)
MATH 60 Pre-Algebra/Elementary Algebra (24 questions) Intermediate Algebra/Coordinate Geometry (18 questions) Plane Geometry/Trigonometry based (18 questions)
READING 40 Social Studies/Natural Sciences reading skills (20 social studies & natural sciences questions) Arts/Literature reading skills (20 prose fiction & humanities questions)
SCIENCE 40

What are national ranks?

As your score report explains, the ranks show the percent of recent high school graduates who took the ACT and scored at or below
each of your scores. (See also National Ranks for ACT Scores.)

You can use the ranks to get a sense of your strengths and weaknesses in the four broad areas represented by the test scores and
in the seven specific areas represented by the sub scores. A high rank in a content area may suggest a good chance of success in
related college majors and careers. A low rank may indicate that you need to develop your skills more in that area. If you haven't yet
read the part of your report that explains the ranks of your scores, do so now.

Your high school grades are another way to identify your academic strengths and weaknesses. When you registered for the ACT,
you reported your grades in up to 30 specific courses. The average of those grades (calculated by ACT on an unweighted 4-point
scale) is reported on your Student Report. Test scores and high school grades together are usually better indicators of future
academic success than either is alone.

If you want to know more about what your test scores can tell you about the skills you are likely to know and what you are likely to be
able to do in each content area measured by the ACT, see ACT College Readiness Standards.
